PDS was at the pool this past weekend leading the Body Recovery Drill. What’s that you ask?…..
Body Recovery Drill is a drill where we drop “Bob” our life-like mannequin in the water and go recover him.
The drill simulates locating, bagging, preserving and lifting out of the water, a drowned victim.
The Fire Department uses Dive Rescue International’s body recovery system. The system helps keep important forensic evidence intact. This unique design by Dive Rescue International keeps the Body Bag just below the surface to keep the contents private to onlookers and to remain sensitive to the victims family. The system can also be used to haul other heavy items to the surface.
Because the condition that we work is in not pristine, we simulate this drill wearing blindfolds. This represents our typical diving conditions with less than a foot of visibility in murky water. we do everything by feel rather than by sight!
